This composition is a preparatory sketch for a larger work. It depicts a young woman in rustic yet feminine dress, balancing on a wooden kitchen chair to reach the top blossoms on a rose bush. It was inspired by similar paintings by Waterhouse and others, and I thought it was such charming subject matter I had to bring it to a Midwestern vibe.
This is from my "Midwestern Nice" series, which depicts near-past nostalgia and sensory memories of rural and suburban Midwest experiences.
