Snoring in a Jar
Snoring in a Jar,Symbol-head creatures are demanding that Jasnah tell them the truth in exchange for returning her to the place where she spent so many years. The only way to get there is to go through the book Jasnah has in her hand, but the books are a mess and she’s afraid of what she’ll find. Is it possible to escape the Symbol-heads’ demands?
Shallan regrets everything she’s done to Jasnah
Throughout her life, Jasnah had been protected Snoring in a Jar. She was the youngest of five siblings and the quietest. Her brothers worried that she was not safe. They did not want to abandon her in a new city. They invested in a shipping business that was run by Tozbek. They had always been willing to accommodate her requests. But they had expected her to leave. Tozbek had no resentment. He was a captain in his family’s business. Besides, he had always agreed to take her back to Vedenar. If he did, he would regret it.
Then, one day, Shallan’s father came to him and told him that they were losing their business and that their house would be confiscated. If the creditors were successful in taking it, they would work them to death. It was not long after this that they realized that they would have to flee the city. This was a big change in their lives. The Vorin teachings had been a source of comfort during these difficult days.
Navani’s snoring at Jasnah

Apparently, snoring in a jar is a thing. But how does it work? And is it even useful? Well, read on to find out.
Navani was having a bad hip day. Her hip was giving her grief and she was having difficulty getting in and out of bed. Having a bad hip was a real annoyance. She tried to focus on her work. But the pain got the better of her. Her mind kept running circles around her.
What’s the best way to cure this? Well, that would take a lot of research and a lot of luck. Fortunately, she had a good friend who knew a lot about pain, namely Raboniel. She had seen and dealt with many types of pain over the years. He was not only a doctor, but an excellent researcher. He also had a hunch that Navani was having trouble with her hip. He offered her a hand. But Navani was reluctant to put her trust in a human. She feared she might be unable to help her. She did not want to seem weak or unfit.
Ivory’s disguise is easy to pull off
Using an ivory or a rhinoceros pelt in your next cocktail hour might be a bad idea. These items are illegal in most parts of the world and if you are caught carrying a piece of the ilk you could be arrested and face a stiff penalty. There are some tricks to get around the legal system.
In fact, a recent case in Macau illustrates how you can make a buck by disguising an elephant tusk or other genus of animal as something more palatable like a pack of chocolates. In this particular case, the ivory was repackaged in fake packaging and covered with a brown substance to give the appearance of the real thing. The aforementioned gimmick has been used by a number of nefarious traffickers in the wild west.
Stacks of books caught Jasnah’s attention
During a feast, the Parshendi delegation clustered near the high table. They were nervous and acted oddly. But the delegation had a definite purpose: to speak to Jasnah over her father’s death. Apparently, the Parshendi leaders were claiming credit for the death of her father.
Shallan was always surprised by Jasnah’s emotions. Her thoughts of Jasnah Kholin were of someone almost divine. It made her wonder if scholars had been searching in the wrong ruins. She knew she had to do something. She would be too late if she didn’t.
Eventually, Jasnah found her way to Shallan’s room. She was tired and frustrated. She feared that the end was near. She wanted to save as many lives as possible. She had a personal vendetta against murderers. And she had an idea for how to protect her family.
Symbol-head creatures demand truth in exchange for sending Shallan back to “that place”
During a search for clues to the cause of the disappearance of the Veden natives, Jasnah and Shallan come across a symbol-head creature. It demands to know the truth, and then sends Shallan back to “that place”. This is a sign that Shallan is in danger. Then the two walk into an alley full of murderers.
Jasnah tries to calm Shallan. She says that she could have locked Shallan up and killed her for theft. She isn’t trying to convert anyone. She just wants to keep her safe. She doesn’t want to hurt her religious beliefs. But she also fears that other groups will try to control the parshmen. She’s afraid she’ll be too late. She’s driving herself harder than anybody else to stop the end.
