Dahlia Study

Dahlia Study

6 x 9 inches, oil on linen, study of dahlias.

I’m working on finishing up a commissioned painting of dahlias, so I did this study to help with the finish of that.   I’ve found that with multi-session paintings from photos, doing some paintings from life during the process really makes the paintings from photos feel more life-like.

  1. I am right you have had an artistic breakthrough.
    I can tell.
Your work has really leapt forward. I can see a stronger confidence in your work.
Wanna share any thoughts on that?

Guess I’m eating ramen again this week! I’m gonna be so poor. Gorgeous.

Beautiful painting! I really like the contrast of the realistic flower and the untreated canvas. Your other flower paintings are also wonderful!

  4. It’s wonderful! Really like what you are doing with the drips and runs! Your flowers just get better and better!

This really is excellent work. If I could talk you into a trade, I would.Your finished pieces are always exemplary, but I like these studies more. They show off your eye for color and instinctive touch. Nicely done. I’ll look forward to seeing the commissioned piece.

I can’t think of a painting you’ve created I didn’t like. This is wonderful work. Like I have always said, you are a true master.
